To be honest, there was a time in my life where I thought taking care of my skin was something I need not do. In my defence, I never had any trouble with it. I had no acne problems and with that, I never really thought about my skin in its entirety. It was never an issue to me. Which, was truly a blessing until I had to stay in Melbourne and ended up with this dry patchy skin for almost a year. I could not even smile without hurting my face; it felt as though there was a bad drought going on and I could almost hear my skin crack whenever I speak.
Looking back at those old photographs, I could not help but cringe. Dry skin and blue contact lenses? What in the world was I thinking?! Ever since that, I vowed to take care of my skin and let’s just say, there were also moments where I had the need to wear foundation on my face all the time because I hated how dull and uneven my skin was. It was all too conspicuous. I realised, the only way you could appreciate your skin is by actually taking care of it. I am sure, I am in no position to speak for those who are battling with more serious problems like acnes and whatnot but I can’t truly emphasise enough how important it is to take care of your skin today, even when you feel like you are blessed with good skin.
I have a combination skin but mostly dry. These are the products that I have been using and work for me.
Garnier Micellar Water
I use the Garnier Micellar Water to remove my makeup. This removes most of my makeup. I will also use this before i start with my morning routine because i just think it’s a great way to start with a super clean face.
Bioré Cleansing Oil
Afterward, i will be using the Bioré Cleansing Oil to cleanse. This truly removes every inch of makeup and it truly does its job. It melts your makeup like no other. But i won’t usually just use this product by itself to cleanse my face because i reckon, it does not really make my skin feel fresh or clean. You need to double cleanse.
To double cleanse, i will use the Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel. This is truly a gentle cleanser and it manages to enhance the cleanliness of my face. It does make my skin feel incredibly fresh and slightly brightened. Since it has its AHA formula, it gently exfoliates your face at the same time, which is wonderful because your pores need to be cleaned!
I am sure there are cheaper toners out there but i have tried a few and nothing beats this toner from Lancôme.
The Blanc Expert Brightness Diffusing Essence in Lotion. Remember when i said i had uneven skin? This is THE solution to that. It brightens my skin and it gives me that slight glow whenever i use it. Also, i can definitely see that it minimises my pores and that’s great. I can’t explicate how much i love this product. I am on my third bottle. Yes it can be pricey but it could last for a few months.
Et voila, the secret to that radiant dewy skin! My new found love. I had purchased it some time in October last year and i am still not done with my first bottle. I absolutely love this product! Being in my mid twenties, i need to include anti ageing products into my routine and this is a perfect start. You could instantly see the glow right after you use it. The predominant reason why i had stopped using foundation. This product is said to improve skin’s key signs of youth: elasticity, radiance, firmness, skin tone and smoothness.
Once or twice a week, i would exfoliate my face with any product that is within my reach. Currently, i am using this.
Bio-essence Deep Exfoliating Gel
I am not very particular when it comes to exfoliating, but i guess this does its job. Exfoliating is crucial. Otherwise, you will end up looking flakey and dull.
I’d say my greatest problem would be my under eyes. I hate how puffy and swollen they are.
Advanced Génifique Yeux Light-Pearl
I can’t go through a day without using this beforehand. I’d massage my under eye with this product using the applicator and it is one of the best feelings in the world. It brightens my under eye a little and what it does is it creates a bigger more youthful eyes. I am on my third bottle and i am not planning to stop.
I will then be using this to further brighten my under eyes. It helps remove the fine lines, dryness and uneven skin tone. It helps to not make me look like i was being stabbed and came back alive again.
This is an important step too! Especially if you are going away to a cold country. When i was in Japan, i knew i needed to moisturise my face daily. Otherwise, i’ll end up with super dry skin all over again.
The Bird’s Nest Essence in Cream
I needed something that is reasonably priced because i am sure, moisturisers are moisturisers. As for now, i am using this and i must say, i like the smell of it and the momentary ‘cool’ feeling after applying it. This definitely kept my skin utterly moisturised in Japan.
And don’t forget your sunblocks and if you feel extra, sheet masks! This very routine is what i have been doing for the past few years and i must say, i am loving my skin as it is today. Sure, my under eyes can be a nuisance at times especially when i am lacking of sleep. Usually, i would just dab on some concealer and i am good to go. You can get most of these skincare products from local pharmacy (Watson & Guardian) and Sephora!
What works for me may not work for you. And again, i am in no position to recommend or advice but merely, just sharing my go-to products. Here’s to a better skin!
